Spring Break

I didn't realize there would be such a thing as spring break for such littles and K and C, but there was and we loved every minute it.
When big Aunt Kate called and offered to take C overnight in Santa Cruz, I was able to say yes. And he had the night and morning of his life. Out to dinner, out to ice cream, feather fights, jam sessions, dance parties and lots of giggles. Out to breakfast too. One well-loved little boy. I am not sure who enjoyed it more c or Aunt Kate. She just called me now to see when they can set up another slumber party.
I only tutored 3 hours all week, which meant beach playdates with friends in the morning, long naps altogether in the afternoon, and things such as backyard play, park adventures, and tennis lessons in the evening.
Spring break is fun.
I may not be partying with college friends near rivers, but I am still laughing and outside.
It was a good reminder how simple life could be.....if I didn't work, we had no obligations, no place we had to be except for with each other.
But I like our routine. I like the structure our weeks have, with childcare swaps, swim class, nursery school...I like giving the kids my all from 7-3, and then escaping for a few hours to work with other people's kids. I like seeing those kids learn, gain confidence, learn to trust me, confide in me. I love being their mentor, their advocate.
And thank you Jackie. For driving up for a few days so that we can run in the sand together, race around the backyard, chat, and enjoy each other's children. After all it seems like just yesterday we were doing that as kids ourselves. And here we are today....enjoying it with our own kids.
